Essential Duties
The primary responsibilities include executing a strategic recruitment plan for offices that are central to the stability of democracy and the democratic process, tracking and maintaining project related metrics and records, and planning and innovation for our future work. Â
Position Summary
Run For Something is currently hiring for a Democracy Program Manager. In this role, you will report to the Political Director. This role will play an instrumental part in our multi-year strategy to save democracy by recruiting candidates to run for local election administrator or other down-ballot offices that safe-guard our institutions and processes. The primary responsibility in this role will be to assist in the execution of our recruitment plan by conducting research, completing tactics and collaborating with external partners that will advance our mission and accomplish our stated goals. This position will also track and maintain project related metrics, in order to provide meaningful updates to the political director and other internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the development of future plans and strategies that will expand our recruitment efforts to other down-ballot offices. Â
Responsibilities
Democracy Manager will help RFS accomplish our strategic imperatives via:
Diverse candidate recruitment of local election officials (70%)
- Work across multiple departments to manage and support the execution of a strategic recruitment plan for offices that are central to the stability of democracy and the democratic process
- Working with the Senior Political Manager as well as RFS leadership to identify and nurture strategic partnerships to advance the goals of our recruitment plan
- Conduct accurate and independent research on other down-ballot offices where we can recruit candidates in identified target states
- Maintain and grow our âdemocracy championâ designation for âclerk workâ candidates. This includes recruiting candidates to apply for said designation and facilitating specialty training and resources.
Tracking and maintaining project related metrics, records and correspondences (15%)
- Compose weekly memo to note progress and meaningful updates to key stakeholders and external partners.
- Maintain a reservoir of project (clerk work/local election official) related materials, content and dataÂ
- Develop/engage tool(s) that will track progress to goals and report out to the department director on a regular basis.
Planning & Innovation (15%)
- Identify opportunities for Run for Something to scale local election official recruitment work
- Research data related to other offices that are central to preserving democracy (filing deadlines, electoral processes, etc. related to positions such as library board, school board, or university regent)Â Â
Key Goals
Success in this role will look like:
- Assisting in the management and coordination of our plan to recruit local election administrators - activities towards this end include but not limited to: Overseeing microsite for clerk work recruitment, securing 25 âDemocracy Championâ designations, carrying out tactics associated with a public education campaign, assisting in maintaining partner relationships, developing future phases of recruitment strategies
- Expanding strategic partnerships that can help identify warm leads for candidate recruitment
- Assisting in the creation of recruitment plans and strategies for other elected offices that are central to preserving democracy

- Multi-year experience with political (or issue-based) campaignsÂ

Work EnvironmentÂ
Run for Something is (and always has been and will be) a remote office environment; you will collaborate with colleagues who are based across the United States. You should be prepared to either work from home or a location of your choosing.
When it is safe to do so, this position will require attendance at approximately 2 all-staff events per year, which may include overnight travel.
This position requires the ability to work core hours, Monday through Thursday. The standard office hours at Run for Something are 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. based on the time zone that you reside in. This position will require some nights and weekends work. Â

Essential Physical RequirementsÂ
- As this is a remote position, the person in this position must be able to communicate with colleagues and partners via phone, including conference and video calls, as well as written communication such as Slack and email.Â
- The position requires the ability to work on a computer for all or part of the work day. Â
- The position requires the ability to attend events which may encompass all or part of the work day.
- This position will include travel, as described above.
Compensation & BenefitsÂ
Salary for this position is set at $98,100. In order to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees. Run for Something salary bands for a given staff level are benchmarked to the 75th percentile for our sector, and all new employees are paid at the entry point of those bands. Employees then have the opportunity to progress through current salary bands through annual cost of living increases and performance-based pay increases, and into new salary bands through promotions.Â
